watercolours, variable dimensions, series in progress, 2020-
During the two-months emergency state declared in Romania as a response to the Covid-19 pandemic there was the first time that I saw people in Bucharest wearing masks in the street extensively. Soon this became a usual sight and I watched them from my balcony in the streets below getting out of the tram, going or returning from shopping, walking their dogs or riding bicycles. The reduced number of people going out made these apparitions look ghostly, so I decided to record them as a testimony to these eerie times. Each passer-by or group of people is depicted in a sketchy watercolour, their context removed, while the mask each one is wearing represents the common frame which we suddenly were forced to inhabit together, more fragile than before.
